TO AN ELEPHANT NAMED MELIA !!!!!!!
i am so BEYOND over the moon over this - i have ADORED elephants for i can't even tell you how long! - i've always wanted to travel to Africa and stay for awhile to really enjoy the country and it's wildlife - but the closest i ever got was watching National Geographic! *boo*
But today - i am over the moon - to be the PROUD Mommy of an elephant in Africa at The David Shelfick Wildlife Trust !!! .. anyone can foster or donate to this AMAZING cause! - they are the single most fascinating creature to me!
here you can read all about my Melia if you'd like! - she was born July 3, 2008 - Melia and all the other orphans have keepers that stay with them 24x7! - the goal is to get them back into the wild - and each elephant eventually does leave! - the keepers devote their lives to these elephants!
what's fascinating is that when the elephants leave to go into the wild - they DO come back to the reserve whenever they have babies, get hurt, need water, or a new orphan elephant arrives! - how amazing is that?! - they develop such a bond and have such an emotional connection to their keepers - these elephants make life long connections here! - they literally come by just to say "hi" too! *sigh*
they say an elephant NEVER forgets! - and b/c of this - it can be the single most reason why some baby elephants don't "make it" b/c of the horror they witnessed when their parents were poached! - and did you know when an elephant dies - the elephants have a 'funeral' ?! - they all will visit the deceased and brush their trunks on the elephant to say their last goodbye! - HOW can your heart NOT drop?!!*awwwe*
my life goal is to visit Melia before she is released into the wild - but if i don't make it in time for her - i will have to settle by visiting my other foster elephants! - yes i will be fostering more and more and more - but PLEASE do HELP in this cause! - help and donate or foster an elephant - they can really use your help!!! - this is your chance to give back! - with as little as $50! - yes only $50! - that's less money you probably spend at your local Target in 1 visit!
** don't forget to enter the NECKLACE GIVE-AWAY HERE **
PS - each and everyone of you have an A-mazing weekend! - i'm not sure if i'm heading down the shore to get the boat ready to take out of the water or gonna stay put - either way it's gonna be LOW key for me! - i seriously need a 'do nothing' weekend - probably won't happen - but i'm shooting for one :o)
PSS - OMG I WON!!!! - Tiny Bit of Sparkle had a give-away - and i WON! - this is unreal! - i don't even win a piece of gum - and i just won 3 pairs of handmade earrings! - i'm so not one of those people who "wins" things - THANK YOU universe, i needed this boost!!!!

ReplyDeleteOMG what a sweetie!!! Everything about the Lion King was right- the elephant grave yard! But elephants are such sweet creatures. I'll never understand how someone could kill these beautiful animals for just their ivory. How selfish is that? And sick!

That is so incredible!!! Who knew elephants are so sentimental. I cannot believe how cute Melia is.
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on winning!
I think it's beautiful that you are helping those elephants! I love elephants, too, and I just read about the way they all get mistreated in Thailand... it's horrible and it makes me SO angry.
ReplyDeleteThis is soooo cool. Very neat that they come back to the preserve to visit....cute!

Awh that's adorable! Congrats sweetie! Have a great weekend and congrats on winning the prize! xoxo
ReplyDeleteMe, too! I am a HUGE Animal Lover. I've rescued a cat, a dog and a bunny rabbit. Of course I can't take them in myself (although I wish I could) but I try and find good homes for them. I could never be a vet though because it would break my heart if I had to deal with a "Marley and Me" situation : (
ReplyDeletethat is so bizarre, I have always loved Elephants too. Once I had a dream that little tiny baby elephants were sitting by the freeway and I made my parents stop to rescue them. I was about 10 and since then my love for them have grown. So happy that you are the proud mommy of a beautiful girl. Hope you do get to see her off when she is ready to make her trip into the wild. I will definitely go check it out.
ReplyDeletehe is ADORABLE!!! I bet he was tuff to deliver :-) I LOVE ANIMALS!!! Does he Sleep in bed with you??? HA! Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteYou are my kind of gal! I am simply over the moon about animals, especially those in the "bush." As I flew into the bush in South Africa I saw a heard of elephants from the plane and my eyes swelled with tears. To be in a land that these animals are indigenous to and to not see it destroyed by humans was one of the greatest experiences of my life. I want to return again one day. Congratulations to you and Melia!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations!:D Melia sure is cute!:D
ReplyDeleteHave a wonderful weekend!:D

ReplyDeletedid they talk about this organization on Oprah the other day? I was watching her show on the intelligence of animals and they highlighted an organization who takes care of elephants and the keepers also live with them the whole time.
This is so touching and I am so glad you are fostering little Melia!
