Belt Bag or Fanny Pack?

so i had a lil debat over this item on facebook last week :

a friend of mine was wearing hers in a picture - i commented how i had the same 'fanny pack' but forgot all about it, till i saw her wearing hers - then the whole "FANNY PACK" words stirred up an uproar - so i investigated - Gucci calls it a "BELT BAG" .. and heck Carrie Bradshaw sported this bad boy all the time in Sex and the City, remember?!

(yes this was awhile ago, but Alexander Wang has his version out now too)

and ones like below are popping up everywhere - i have one from Anthro!

SO what do we think of these 'belt bags' these days?

FASHIONABLE and acceptable still?!
or
FANNY PACK and need to get rid of it?!

VOTE!
Fanny Pack or Belt Bag?

PS - this past weekend i spent it outside walking around - carrying my Alexander Wang Coco bag, if you know anything about that bag, you know it's HEAVY! - i've been using it for the past year now (( i never swap bags till i buy a new one usually )) - anyway this past weekend made me realize how much i need to unearth my 'belt bag' when i plan on long days of shopping and sight seeing! - and i know my boyfriend is in total agreement b/c he's not too pleased when i have to ask him to carry my bag! )

  1. I am not a huge fan of belt bags but the girl in the last photo looks amazing! I love her hair-bun

  2. I agree with Diana, I'm not much of a fan of the belt bags unless they're worn over the shoulder (which kind of defeats the point)

  3. I've been undecided about it but after hiking this weekend with my balenciaga in tow I sure think one would come in handy :) xoxo

  4. My bag is always heavy, a belt bag wouldn't work for me, it wouldn't carry all my STUFF. Last week my nephew picked it up and put it on his shoulder and fell over it was so heavy!

  5. Yeah it looks too much like a fanny pack to me...

  6. Hmm I don't know if I'm sold on this.

Cross bodys are my new go to bag though. At least I can switch up how I carry it if I get tired.

Hehe, I knew you'd love the butterflies I featured today dear!

  7. I think it still looks too much of a fanny pack for me, but I admit, these gals in the photos sure look stylish with theirs! :)

  8. I noticed this (when I was researching for Disney World). I think, heck why not?! I mean they are "trendy" and hands-free and to me, they don't look that bad compared to the true fanny packs of the '80-90s - eek!!

  9. However, I have to add, some people can pull it off. I don't think I could ;)

  11. If I could rock that bag like Carrie, I'd be ON IT. Belt bag on her is fantastic. Not sure I could pull it off though.

  13. Funny, I am a bit ambivalent to this question! IT can look ridiculous if worn wrongly, but there are some that looks fabulous so had I bumped into one I adore... maybe I would wear it again.
Last time I wore one was inter-railing in Europe and that was an ugly plastic blue version...

  14. Hmmmm yeah I think I'd skip it... I don't think I could pull it off!

  15. I love this post! I definitely call them fanny packs and I've been seeing them here and there recently and wondering if they'll actually catch on again. I just bought the Alexander Wang Rocco Duffle and I'm so excited about it! It should arrive tomorrow.

  16. hmm hard to say...for the everyday person, i say no. for the fashionable, maybe. for sjp/carrie, yes haha

  17. I think the "fanny pack" can be worn, but only if the right person is wearing it. My dad tried to get away with a fanny pack around his waist a while back and it just didn't work!! Ha ha.

  18. I hear ya. That Coco is a back breaker - but I will never part with her. She was a special birthday gift :) And the Rocco's are just cheap imitations in my version. The leather is not nearly as nice and those reese's peanut butter cut fake studs on the bottom aren't nearly as good. I might have osteoporosis in the end though...

    Carrie

  20. hmmm...I'm weird with this. I like the purses that go over your shoulder & your neck. I don't like the belt bags or the fanny packs. =P

  21. I voted and it is a close one! I say, if you wanna wear it, go for it! But you will probably get some slack so you better be confident enough to pull it off! I'm not sold on it yet, but I admit that it would be convenience at times :)

    XOXO

  22. Love love love these bags. I found a brilliant fanny pack on Etsy that I've been lusting over for months. My boyfriend has been ridiculing me but it's soooo pretty!!

    See for yourself:

(I have no affiliation to the seller, but damn I love that bag haha)

  23. i want a belt bag bad! (actually i want the gucci one, but that ain't gonna happen!) i think they are kitschy and cute. :)

  24. oiy vay... i blogged about this debate a few weeks ago. so practical... so many designers make them.. but they are fanny packs. i can't wrap my head around it.

maybe once i have a few kids, less free hands, and a svelte yoga butt- i'll think about it. :)

  25. My gut reaction is a resounding "no! don't do it!" But it is kinda cute. I'm completely on the fence and that little bag could knock me on either side.

  26. I'm not a fan of the belt bag or fanny pack. I'd much rather carry a cross body bag if I want to go "hands free." I hear you on the A Wang! I have the Rocco, and it's a back breaker empty! Load it with a few essentials, and you need to see a chiropractor! The shoulder strap on the new version does help though.

  29. I think if it's Gucci, you can get away with it ;-)

I mean how cool does Carrie look there!? haha

  30. i've always loved the way carrie pulls it off but i definitely don't think it's for everyone... don't think i can pull it off!

  31. I'm not sure that I'm a fan...I haven't seen them in real life even, so maybe if I do my opinion will change :)

  32. Carrie Bradshaw looks fabulous with her Fanny Pack. But, just because Carrie can pull it off doesn't mean it should go mainstream, in my humble opinion...

Thanks for stopping by so I could discover YOUR blog!!

  33. Ooh I loved my Fanny Pack as a kid! Thought it was the best thing since My little Pony :)
These days not so much! No matter what label or name you give it it will always just be a fanny pack I wore when I had no front teeth.
