4 Ways to Make Your Bedroom More Tranquil

Most of us live very busy lives with little time for rest. By the time we lie down to go to bed, our minds are often still active due to stress. We don’t sleep well or enough, and we wake up feeling tired. We do this day in and day out, spreading ourselves too thin and only functioning half as well as we could be. Our bedrooms, places that should provide us relief from our daily stress, often are not tranquil enough. Our mattresses are stiff, our comforters too thick, and our TVs and computers are too distracting. Fortunately, there are simple ways you can make your bedroom a more tranquil and relaxing place. Here are four of those ways:
1. Banish the TV and computer to the living room.

Having a TV and computer in your room can disrupt the flow of calming energy. Plus, watching TV before bed makes it harder to fall asleep and can wake you up in the middle of the night (if you forget to set the sleep timer). Doing stuff on your computer before bed keeps your mind active instead of allowing it to enter a restful state that is conducive to falling asleep.
2. Invest in a memory foam mattress pad.

If your mattress is uncomfortable, there’s no need to rush out and buy a new one. You can purchase a memory foam pad that can make your bed dramatically more comfortable. A memory foam pad will adjust itself based on your unique body shape to provide you with an optimal level of comfort.
3. Take advantage of aromatherapy.
Scents like lavender, chamomile, and jasmine can all have a calming effect on you and help reduce anxiety. In fact, the scent of lavender has actually been proven by a few studies to promote relaxation. You can get pillow sprays, oils, candles, and many other products for your bedroom that will release the relaxing scents you desire. Just remember to blow all candles out before you fall asleep!
4. Consider getting a white noise machine.
White noise machines will provide you with calming background noise. Many people with insomnia and other sleep problems find them to be helpful. However, others actually find them bothersome. You may want to try one out for a little while and see if it helps promote relaxation. Most stores will let you return it if it ends up not meeting your needs. Just remember to hold onto your receipt.

These are just a few of the ways you can make your bedroom a more relaxing place. Sweet dreams!

  1. So true! We don't have a tv in our room and it makes a huge difference. Also, keeping cell phones away. So hard but so important!

  3. my hubby can't fall asleep without the tv on and it drives me insane....

I am getting into essential oils these days to relax. I have started making my own night creams to relax and nourish my skin without the toxins.

  4. This is wonderful! I've gotten rid of the t.v. and I have the aromatherapy - just need the white noise machine! Great idea and (somehow) I don't know about this! My home is noisy at night and sometimes I leave a small fan on to help me fall asleep. I also use the Dr. Haushka {aromatherapy}lotion at night. It is amazing! :) xoxo
