The SCAR Project

** CAUTION: Adult material **

i found this site at work - and let me tell you - it took me some serious fierceness to look through these AMAZING photographs of young women, like myself, with breast cancer .. the courage and strength is seen in each face along with the tears of sadness and dispair - truly a powerful work - it has evoked so many emotions within me that i know will take me weeks or months to even understand!

The SCAR project is an exhibition of large scale portraits of young breast cancer survivors photos shot by fashion photographer David Jay.  It's a raw, unflinching face on early onset breast cancer while paying tribute to the courage and spirit of the many brave women!

*brave*

*torn*

*make the best of it and enjoy ur alive*

*pain*

*sadness*

*power*

*i am who i am*

*inspiration*

*keeping it in*

*BOLD*

this IS breast cancer - the reality of the world i live in - people have told me through this "there's life BEFORE cancer and there's life AFTER cancer" - i wouldn't wish it upon anyone - terrifying - almost to the point your frozen in time and all your wishing for is to go back in time

my life - my reality
give me strength!

above: my goal in life! - just hoping i get the chance!

to all the survivors - those we lost - the previvors - friends and family - THANK YOU for making the path for me just a tad bit easier! - crying or not - you've made a difference in my life! - forever grateful and honored!

  2. I have chills. What amazing, beautiful, brave & courageous women. Their strength just spills out from the photos. A few weeks ago while on Fire Island, a woman who had a double masectomy was walking on the beach topless and it was the most powerful thing I have ever seen.

Sending you lots of love, hugs, strength and good health, sweetie xoxo

  18. There are no words to describe my thoughts. I feel sadness that any woman in our society has to face such a painful experience and a altering of the body's appearance. I feel empowered that woman are so strong, as to deal with such a painful experience and then to be photographed in such a vulnerable state...these women are amazing. We need to support one another in good times and bad. Erika, my heart breaks for you. I am sorry that you're experiencing such a reality. Truly, it makes me feel sad. You are the definition of strength.
